Katie, CEO (LVT, CVPM)
Katie Newbold began her career in veterinary medicine in 1993 and gained experience working as a veterinary technician, team leader and supervisor in general practice as well as emergency, internal medicine and cardiology. In 2001 Katie began her current occupation with CVCA – Cardiac Care for Pets as a licensed veterinary technician. Over time she became involved in every aspect of the management process and was promoted to practice manager in July of 2005. Katie earned her credentials as Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) via the VHMA in October of 2008. She currently serves as CVCA’s Chief Executive Officer, developing initiatives in strategy, growth and culture for our practice. Her passion is creating an exceptional work environment where high quality care and service can be delivered. Katie also enjoys speaking to local and national management groups regarding veterinary leadership and management topics. Her favorite activity is spending time with her husband, three daughters and yellow lab.
Shannon, CVPM, Practice Manager
Shannon has always had a love and interest for animals. She graduated with a B.S. degree in Wildlife Science from Virginia Tech in 2006. Shortly after graduating Shannon began her career with CVCA – Cardiac Care for Pets as a veterinary nurse. In March of 2009 she was promoted to Team Leader of the Leesburg office. She quickly became interested in the business management aspect of veterinary medicine. In April of 2010 Shannon was promoted to Operations Manager. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends, family, her rat terrier mix, Riley.
Ori, LVT, Regional Manager
Ori started working in the veterinary field in 2007 before joining CVCA in 2014 as Team Leader of our Richmond location. Ori was promoted in 2015 and now serves as CVCA’s Regional Manager. She has worked in general practice and specialty medicine in the past and also did spay and neuter emergency relief work. Ori graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and from Blue Ridge Community College with an A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology. She enjoys the educational side of veterinary medicine and has written articles for various veterinary journals/magazines (NAVTA, Firstline, Today’s Pet Practice). Ori has volunteered in the past with the Children’s Hospital, Cat’s Cradle Rescue and Madelyn’s Friends. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband Justin, son Sal and 2 Siamese cats ‘Clementine’ and Gandhi. Her hobbies include reading crime novels and collecting records.
Carrie, RVT, Regional Manager
Carrie’s career in veterinary medicine began during her college years in the late 1990s. Needing gainful employment close to school, her first job was with a local small animal and exotic practice. In the summer of 1998, she was offered a job at a busy emergency animal clinic and by the time she graduated from University of Maryland at College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, she was working there full time. Across the next decade, while honing her skills in medicine and management, she also pursued other specialties including surgery, internal medicine, critical care and exotic pet medicine. In 2009, after developing an interest in cardiac medicine, she started working for CVCA and a year later sat for her VTNE and earned her RVT. Carrie has served as Team Leader for the Gaithersburg, Rockville and Columbia locations. Her role in the expansion and start up in CVCA’s Louisville location peaked her interest in business development and in 2017 she was promoted to Regional Manager. Carrie enjoys traveling to new places rich with history and when able, she’ll foster orphan kittens for local rescues. She also enjoys singing and playing the guitar, hiking, running, cooking, gardening and attending local festivals.
Mila, LVT, Human Resources Manager
Mila’s career in the veterinary field began in 1998. She started working as an assistant for a veterinary referral practice in Dover, NH and eventually earned her degree in Veterinary Technology in 2000. After graduating, she relocated to Northern Virginia where she became a licensed veterinary technician and worked for a primary care veterinary practice in Fairfax for 6 years. Mila always wanted to return to veterinary specialty medicine and was excited to join CVCA – Cardiac Care for Pets in 2006. Mila enjoys free time with her husband, daughter and three dogs-Hermes, a Yorkshire terrier; Ion and Jelly Bean, both Chihuahuas.
Shawn, Financial Manager
Shawn came to CVCA – Cardiac Care for Pets in June of 2011 after managing her family’s construction business for more than 18 years. Shawn has a deep love for animals and spends her spare time painting pet portraits and working in animal rescue. She enjoys hiking, painting, and spending time with her family and three Bull Terrier rescues: Pete, Leo and Gizzymoto; her Staffordshire Terrier rescue Gracie Belle and her kitty Buddha.
Denise, Marketing Manager
Denise began her career with CVCA – Cardiac Care for Pets in March 2013. She has always had a love of animals and currently volunteers with her daughter at a local animal shelter. In her spare time, she likes spending time with family and friends, supporting her children in their activities and spending time outdoors hiking, biking and gardening.
Elizabeth, Marketing Associate
Growing up on her family’s farm in southern Virginia, Elizabeth developed a strong love for animals at a young age. After graduating with her B.A. in Communication Studies from Lynchburg College (go Hornets!), she made the move to northern Virginia and received her Dog Training Certification. Elizabeth joined CVCA in 2018 and brought with her 5+ years of marketing experience. In her spare time, she loves exploring the great outdoors with her husband, daughter and rescue pup, Finn. She also enjoys traveling, photography, spending quality time with her friends and family and all things social media! On the weekends you can find her taste-testing new brews, wines and delicious bites!
Michael, Executive Assistant
Michael joined CVCA in 2015. She has worked in the veterinary field since 1997, and has worked in general practice, specialty and emergency hospitals. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her husband, family and friends, her dog “Spike,” a Chinese Crested and her cat “Flip.” She enjoys, cooking, reading, traveling and sewing. Her favorite sports team are the Broncos.
Kelly, Staff Development Coordinator
Kelly began her career with CVCA in June 2008. Kelly has worked in the veterinary field since starting her first job in high school as a kennel assistant. She has since accumulated a diverse field of experience, having worked as a general practice office manager, an equine emergency nursing technician and a large & small animal practice technician. Kelly is currently working towards her CPLP (Certified Professional in Learning & Perfomance) accreditation to enhance her contributions to staff development within CVCA. In April of 2010 Kelly was promoted to Team Leader with CVCA and in September of 2017 moved into the Staff Development Coordinator role and became a Certified Professional Trainer . Kelly is an active member of Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of America and the NorthEast Staffordshire Bull Terrier and SBT rescue, does K9 Agility, Barn Hunt, Nosework and Rally Obedience and enjoys doing stained glass work. Kelly shares her life with her horse “Chimed” (Welsh Cob), dogs: Midge, Dugan, Jemma, Reef and Brena (Staffordshire Bull Terriers) and cat “Fluffy Dan”.
