Jamie, Team Leader
After moving from a small town in Maine, Jamie began working in the veterinary field in January of 1991. For over a decade, Jamie has had the pleasure of working with a great team of cardiologists in order to help out furry family members manage their heart diseases. Her current position as team leader of the Annapolis location has given her the opportunity to work on the management side of the practice, and grow as a professional. She also does volunteer work at the YWCA and Anne Arundel County Shelters. Her free time is spent with close friends, family, her dog “Liberty” and her two cat playmates “Victor” and “Sonnie.” She also enjoys traveling, cooking and rooting for any sports teams that are from New England!

Sara, Veterinary Assistant
Sara started working in the veterinary field in 2000 and worked in emergency veterinary medicine for 12 years before coming to CVCA. In her spare time, Sara volunteers at a spay/neuter clinic and enjoys fostering cats and dogs for shelters and rescues. As for pet of her own, Sara has two dogs: “Tooofus”, a Terrier mix and “Maeby”, also a mix. She also has seven cats: “Sophie”, “Macy”, “Fat Albert”, “Bob Loblaw”, “Mel”, “Lucille Z.” and “Charlotte.” Sara’s hobbies include hiking, reading, going to concerts and hockey games. Go Caps!
Karen, Veterinary Nurse
Growing up in PA, Karen was always surrounded by many beloved pets. She started working at a primary care veterinary hospital in 1996 as a kennel assistant and worked her way up to a veterinary assistant. Karen received her BA from Penn State University in 2001. She then moved to northern Virginia with her husband Chris and started working at a primary care veterinary office where she worked 10 years before coming to CVCA. She enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends and “Gizmo”, her beloved Miniature Poodle. As she grew up in PA, her favorite sports teams are the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and Flyers! And you can’t forget the Penn State University Nittany Lions, Go State!
Casey, Veterinary Assistant
Casey started working in the veterinary field in 2013. After moving from Rockville, MD to the Leesburg, VA area she started working at CVCA in 2014. During her spare time, Casey enjoys following her favorite sports team is the Washington Redskins and loves spending time with her 2 horses “Bug” and “Scottie”; 2 cats “Sparkplug” and “Misfire”; and 2 dogs “Bullet” and “Bailey.”

Laura started working in the veterinary field in 2002. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband, reading, watching movies with friends and being around her furry family members a cat, “Charlie” and her Doberman dog “Panzer.”
Kelly, Team Leader
Kelly began her career with CVCA in June 2008. Kelly has worked in the veterinary field since starting her first job in high school as a kennel assistant. She has since accumulated a diverse field of experience, having worked as a general practice office manager, an equine emergency nursing technician and a large & small animal practice technician. Kelly is currently working towards her Associate of Science degree at Penn Foster College, with the goal of obtaining her veterinary technician license. In April of 2010 Kelly was promoted to Team Leader with CVCA. She enjoys spending her spare time riding and training horses and riders in the equine sport of dressage. Kelly is active with the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Australian Cattle Dog rescue, does K9 Agility and enjoys doing stained glass work. Kelly shares her life with her horse “Chimed” (Welsh Cob), dogs: “Midge” (Staffordshire Bull Terrier), and “Jasper” (Australian cattle dog), and cat “Fluffy Dan”.

Before Kate came to work for CVCA in 2011, she worked in a large animal shelter in Pittsburgh, PA and also spent time at the University of Pittsburgh where she studied Environmental Studies. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband, 3 cats, hiking in Shenandoah National Park, kayaking, and traveling to Western PA to visit family. Kate is an avid sports fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jennifer started in the veterinary field in 2003 as a veterinary technician and came to CVCA in 2014. She has multiple furry friends including “Jimmy Choo” a long coat Chihuahua, “Sadi” an Australian Shepherd, and multiple chickens. In her spare time Jennifer enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Her favorite sports team is the Washington Redskins!

Samantha has worked in the veterinary field since 1995 and joined CVCA in 2015. She is currently enrolled with Penn Foster’s Veterinary Technician program with plans to graduate in 2015. Samantha enjoys volunteering with All Shepherd Rescue, and the Maryland Task Force – K9 search specialist with her dog Phoster. In her spare time she enjoys dog training, photography, search and rescue, and schutzhund. Samantha has lots of furry friends at home including “Nixon” a 2 year old German Shepherd, “Lena” a 10 year old German Shepherd, “Phoster” a 6 year old Labrador, “Gabriel” a 16 year old cat and “Minerva McGonagal” a 9 year old cat.

Lisa has always had a love for animals. She started volunteering at the SPCA animal shelter at the age of 14 and started working in private practice at 16. After high school, she pursued her dream of becoming a veterinary technician and moved to Denver, CO to attend the Bel-Rea Institute for Animal Technology. After graduating in 1992, she moved back to Maryland and started working at the Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC) with Atlantic Veterinary Internal Medicine. After almost 20 years of service with AVIM she felt it was time for a change. In January 2012, she decided to join CVCA. Her hobbies include camping, cooking, and fostering for several area dog rescue groups. She lives with her husband, son and 2 rescue dogs: “Roxy” a German Shepherd and “Riley” a Labrador Retriever, both of which are K9 and foster failures.

Kristina started working in the veterinary field in 1996 as a kennel assistant and worked her way up to a veterinary assistant. She attended Towson University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and then became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2008. Prior to joining CVCA in 2013, she spent 2 years in emergency medicine, and 7 years with a primary care veterinarian. In her spare time she enjoys baking, beach vacations and spending time with her husband and their mix breed rescue dog “Jade”.

Cari began her veterinary career 25 years ago, in primary veterinary care practice. She then moved to emergency medicine and critical care, where her technical and nursing care skills were highly developed. Employed with CVCA since 1999, Cari is the team leader in our Towson office. Her free time is enjoyed by spending time with her family and friends, along with her 3 parrots, 3 cats and 2 dogs.

Carrie grew up on a farm with horses and livestock, so when she needed a job in college, she was naturally drawn into the field of veterinary medicine. After graduating from the University of Maryland at College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences, she pursued her career at a local emergency clinic. Though she maintained a full time position in emergency medicine for most of the past 12 years, she also pursued other specialties including surgery, internal medicine, critical care and exotics. After developing an interest in cardiac medicine, she started working for CVCA in August 2009 as a part time employee. This quickly turned into a full time position and she now serves as Team Leader for the Rockville location. She still keeps up her practice in emergency medicine on the weekends. In her spare time, Carrie fosters for the Montgomery County Animal Shelter for orphan kittens and injured and sick dogs and cats. She also enjoys hiking, running, art, wine, gardening and all things associated with zombies!

John-Michael began his career in the veterinary industry in 2008 and started working for CVCA in 2012. Native to the area, John-Michael was born in DC and later moved to Fairfax, VA. He enjoys volunteering for Wounded Warriors, Toys for Tots and DC Central Kitchens. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, skiing, golfing and he’s a shoe (sneakers) collector. His furry friends at home include: “Spike” (Chinese Crested) and 1 cat, “Flip” (Orange Tabby). John Michael is an avid sports fanatic and is a die hard Washington Redskins and Nationals fan!

Monica started working in the veterinary field in 2009 and joined CVCA in 2013 as a veterinary nurse. She was promoted to Team Leader of our Fairfax office in 2014. Monica and her husband recently welcomed their first son Wesley and he joins their furry family members “Chico” a mini Chihuahua mix and “Archie” a New Guinea Singing Dog. Monica enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, playing games and listening to music. Her favorite sports teams include the Washington Redskins, Washington Capitals and Washington Nationals.

Claudia started working in the veterinary field in 1994 and came to CVCA in 2012. Originally from Pennsylvania, Claudia moved to Loudoun County in 2003 where she worked in the veterinary field training horses and dogs. Claudia attended Wilson College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology and Business. In her spare time she enjoys riding and training horses, riding her bike, swimming, running, hiking, and agility training with dogs. She has 2 Border Terriers “Mia” and “Finnick”, a Border Collie “Caley” and a Thoroughbred “Athena”.

Heather started in the veterinary field in 2004 as a veterinary nurse for an equine hospital before joining the CVCA team in 2008. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Animal Science from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Heather volunteers with the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. In her spare time she enjoys canoeing, hiking, camping, reading and spending time with her husband and dog Duder, a Labrador Retriever mix.

Tirzah started working in the veterinary field in 2006 and started working with CVCA in 2009 in our Vienna office, but later moved to Richmond to help open our Richmond office. She graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Wildlife Science. She and her husband share some furry children, 2 cats “Pip” and “Squeaks” and a dog “Duke” a Labrador Retriever. In her spare time she enjoys running, rowing, hiking with “Duke” and beading.

Adam started working in the veterinary field in 2004, and joined CVCA in 2015. Some of his hobbies and interests include seeing the world, cooking, and lounging with his 10 year old Yorkie, “Bailey.” His favorite sports teams are the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Capitals.

Janet started working in the veterinary field in 2003, and joined CVCA in 2010. Prior to CVCA, Janet worked in a small general practice as well as in ER. In her spare time, Janet enjoys spending time with her son, boating with family and anything else outdoors. She is a huge fan of the Washington Capitals and the Washington Redskins!

Ally started working in the veterinary field in 2005 and joined CVCA in 2014. A native Northern Virginian born in Falls Church, Ally enjoys going to the beach and spending time with her family and her nephews Isaac and Logan. And her own furry family consists of “Gabby,” a German Shepard mix; 2 domestic long haired cats “Sweet Tea” and “Natty Gann” and 1 calico cat “Miss Kitty”
Stephanie, Client Service Representative
Stephanie worked for many years teaching in elementary schools. Part of her curriculum always included responsible pet ownership and compassion for animals. She is very happy to be a part of CVCA and have the opportunity to help both people and their pets. In spring of 2009 Stephanie won the Client Service and Values award at CVCA for her innovation and dedication to client and patient advocacy. Stephanie lives with her husband and their dogs Jessie, a hound mix and a black Labrador Retriever named James.
Kayla, Team Leader
Kayla was born and raised in Northeast Ohio. She later moved to Knoxville, TN where she attended the University of Tennessee. Kayla has been working in the veterinary industry since 2010. In 2014 she moved to Virginia and joined CVCA. In her spare time, she loves to travel, spend time with her husband and hang out with her furry family members, “Jake” a black Labrador Retriever, “Mabel” a tri-color hound mix, “Bella” a brown/black Dachshund and “Karl” her guinea pig.
Alissa, Team Leader
Alissa is originally from Illinois and has been a Kentucky resident for the past 5 years. Before joining CVCA, Alissa worked in the veterinary field since 2012. She started as a veterinary assistant in a primary care veterinary office and in a few years worked her way up to practice manager. Alissa holds a B.A. in History from DePaul University and a Masters in Energy and Environmental Policy from the University of Delaware. All her dogs are rescues and have the best nicknames, “Bella” a Lab mix a.k.a. “Buggles,” “Courtney” a Chow mix a.k.a. “Corn Dog” and “Tiny” a Beagle mix a.k.a. “the Biscuit.” Alissa volunteers with the local and regional craft and homebrew events and competitions. She is a Philadelphia Eagles fan who enjoys gardening, home improvement projects, beer crafting and spending time with her husband and stepdaughter.

Jennifer is from Louisville, KY and attended Brown Mackie College. Before joining CVCA, Jennifer spent nearly 13 years in the veterinary field and volunteered for a couple of years before deciding to make it a full-time job in 2005. She has three dogs: “Mango” a Border Collie, “Mocha” a chocolate Lab and “Bo” the Bulldog. Outside of work she enjoys dancing, crafts, spending time with her husband and son and is a football fan, her favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mary Ann has been working in the veterinary field since 2012 prior to joining CVCA. Mary Ann went to Brown Mackie College and is a football fan; her favorite team is the Indianapolis Colts. Mary Ann’s pets include “Daisy” a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix, two cats: “Pepper” and “Buttercup,” and “Snakey, ” the snake. In her spare time, Mary Ann enjoys painting, going to the lake and spending time with her daughter, Paislee.
